Parking a Truck: What to Watch Out For
Hiring a truck can make moving day a whole lot easier, but parking something bigger than your everyday car can take a little getting used to. With extra length, width and height to think about, a little planning can save you plenty of hassle.
Before entering a car park, check the height clearance first, as low awnings, boom gates and multi-storey car parks can be easy to misjudge in a larger vehicle.
Reversing also takes extra care. Larger vehicles have bigger blind spots, so take it slowly, use your mirrors and get out to check your surroundings if you’re unsure. Where possible, choose a space you can drive straight through, so you can leave forwards rather than reversing into traffic or a tight laneway.
Narrow loading docks, inner-city streets and older car parks can also make turning trickier. Give yourself plenty of room, and if a space looks tight, it can be worth doing a lap first to plan your approach.
When you’re parked, make sure the handbrake is properly engaged, particularly on a slope. A little extra care can make parking a much easier part of the day.
